PM James Marape thanks PNG Customs and IRC

Papua New Guinea has seen a significant increase in revenue collection efficiency at the PNG Customs Service and the Internal Revenue Commission (IRC) for the last two years.

During the Parliamentary budget session in November 2022, Prime Minister James Marape acknowledged IRC and PNG Customs for their contribution in revenue collection resulting in additional revenue this year.

According to the Prime Minister: “we [PNG] have received about three billion additional revenue this year, one billion came as a result of extra efficiency from IRC and Customs. ‘’I would like to acknowledge the staff of IRC and Customs, under the leadership of Mr. Koim and Mr. Towe. Thank you for their faithfulness and the work they do as they continue to increase the efficiency of the collection,’’ he said.

‘’Oil prices have increased but if there is no regulator, we will not see the fruits of their job and we will not get additional revenue for this year, he added.

The Prime Minister said over the last two years the Government has increased its support to these two organizations to improve their financial system thus enabling them to continue to perform their duties as regulators in revenue collection.
