For normal commercial flights only one airport in Papua New Guinea (PNG) has a full-time Customs, Immigration and Quarantine presence. That airport is Jacksons International Airport located in Port Moresby.
Currently all visitors to PNG travel through Jackson's International Airport and transfer to domestic airlines to complete their journey to locations within PNG.
Operators should note that any aircraft arriving from, or departing to, overseas destinations may only do so from a Customs approved airport. Some smaller airports around the country are approved to accept mine supply flights and private/chartered flights but as Customs and other agencies do not have a full-time presence at these airports, operators should check with Customs before finalising their flight plans. Operators are required to obtain prior approval from Customs for flights into and out of non-international airports. Operators must submit a Request for Approval to Customs within the time limits specified to allow relevant border agencies to consider the applications. The first point of contact for requests for flights carrying passengers and crew to or from non-international airports is Customs and the request must be lodged with Customs at least 30-days before the intended arrival or departure date.
Private aircraft or commercial aircrafts carrying less than 10 passengers must lodge their request with Customs within five clear working days before the intended arrival or departure date.
